Floripedia
Floripedia’s design pays tribute to the classic aesthetic of antique botanical books, both in layout and typography, but with a contemporary twist. The goal is to bring together a collection of stunning flowers in a single book, presented in a visually appealing and functional way. Green, the dominant color, creates a direct connection to the floral world and embodies the essence of Colvin, author of the book.
The illustrations verge on hyperrealism while maintaining an artistic touch, striking a balance between detail and expressiveness. Each image is designed to make flower identification effortless, highlighting their most distinctive features with a subtle 3D effect. This visual approach not only enhances key characteristics but also allows room for interpretation, capturing variations and different species within the same family. Floripedia transforms botanical knowledge into a unique, accessible, and visually captivating experience.
The result is a perfect balance, seamlessly blending the work of Studio Eva Vesikansa —responsible for design and art direction— and my work.
The concept was dreamed up by Editorial Cinco Tintas and Colvin, and the final look captures the spirit of that collaboration. Creative credit goes to both, with rights held by Editorial Cinco Tintas.
